Six systems, one crew.

What each finish is, what it goes over, how thick it builds, its cure clock, and how to look after it. The page gets one grit finer with every system.

Bathroom with a seamless trowelled wall and polished concrete floor around a stone bath
Seamless walls and floors, no grout lines.
MC-01

Microcement

Also called micro-topping or micro-screed: a thin, polymer-modified cement coating trowelled on by hand in several coats, then sealed with a polyurethane or epoxy topcoat. It gives one continuous surface across floors, walls, showers and benchtops.

Because it bonds to most sound surfaces, it is often the way to transform a bathroom or kitchen without demolition.

Goes over
Existing tiles, timber, plywood, concrete, render
Thickness
2–3 mm
Minimum area
About 5 m²
Care
Avoid pooling water and harsh chemicals for the first two weeks; then a pH-neutral cleaner
Suits
Bathrooms, showers, kitchens, living areas, feature walls

Cure clock

  1. 0 h

    Final sealer coat

  2. 24 h

    Light foot traffic

  3. 7 days

    Full hardness, water resistant

  4. 2 weeks

Polished concrete floor in a room with tall windows and concrete walls
The slab itself becomes the finished floor.
PC-02

Polished concrete

The existing slab is mechanically ground through progressively finer diamond tooling, densified, and polished to a matte, satin or high-gloss finish. Grind deeper to expose aggregate, or stay near the surface for a cream finish.

Low-maintenance and long-lived, with a raw, architectural look that suits open floors.

Goes over
A sound concrete slab (coverings removed)
Finish
Matte, satin or high gloss; cream, salt-and-pepper or full aggregate exposure
Care
Dry mop and pH-neutral cleaner; periodic burnish keeps the sheen
Suits
New slabs, showrooms, cafés, offices, open-plan homes
